Aaand the much-awaited Pie lands on yet another Vivo device. But this one’s thankfully stable?.

Just yesterday, we highlighted that Chinese phone manufacturer Vivo (which is owned by BBK Electronics) has been recruiting beta testers for Funtouch OS 9/Android Pie on Vivo Z3. The OEM will be pushing the Android Pie public beta update to enrolled Vivo Z3 units by tomorrow (i.e. July 31).

Funtouch OS 9 (Android 9.0) upgrade plan notifies Public beta on Vivo Z3 phones

And this morning, the OEM has confirmed they’re pushing Android Pie to Vivo V9 devices. Vivo V9 is a 2018 phone fueled Snapdragon 626 processor. Shipped originally with Android 8.1 (Oreo) with Funtouch 4 on top, the phone has been waiting for its first major OS update.

As per the company’s Android Pie update plan, while Vivo V9 6GB (2018 phone powered by Snapdragon 660) was to get bumped to Pie in the second quarter, Vivo V9 on the other hand, was to be upgraded to Pie in the third quarter of this year.

And the company has fulfilled their promise of delivering Android Pie to Vivo V9, though to select devices only for the time being. The information comes straight from the horse’s mouth. Few hours back, Vivo India informed a user on Twitter that Pie has been pushed to some V9 devices for testing.

Apparently, the company is doing a soak test before rolling out Android 9.0 Pie to Vivo V9 devices on a wider level. Here’s what Vivo India has to say regarding the update:

We would like to inform you that recently Android Pie upgrade has been released in vivo V9 but it is for testing purpose, when it will be compatible with the handset then you may get the notification for the same and after that you may upgrade it.

We were able to spot one such user (@amit_me) who received the update in question on their V9 unit, and was generous enough to share the patch details and changelog with us.

Going by the user shared info, the Pie update bears build number 6.7.11 and weighs ~2.5GB. And yes, it brings along the popular Dark mode along with the usual Pie goodies.

But as has been stated by Vivo India, the update is currently being tested on limited units. If you remember, something similar happened in case of Vivo V11 Pro as well. All in all, Pie may take some time to hit all Vivo V9 units (if no major issues show up during this testing phase, fingers crossed).

Here’s hoping the OEM pushes the update to all V9 units soon. Rest assured, we’ll notify as and when the wider roll-out begins. In the meantime, if you’re among the lucky users who got to install Pie on their Vivo V9 devices, feel free to drop a comment and share with us your experience about it.

Update 1 (August 19)

A Vivo V9 user has shared with us the download link for the Android Pie update. However, we aren’t sure how legit the zip file is. So those of you who wish to install, we caution you about the risk.
