Chinese phone manufacturer Vivo (which is owned by BBK Electronics) shared the schedule for Android Pie-based Funtouch OS 9’s arrival on 13 of their devices a few months back.

While Funtouch OS 9 public beta for Vivo X21i, Z1, Z1i, X23, and X23 Symphony Edition was released back in April, Vivo X21, X21 UD, X21s, NEX A, NEX S, NEX Dual Screen Edition, and Vivo Z3i received the open beta in June. However, Vivo Z3 was to get the update via public beta by July end.

Cut to now. We are nearing the end of July, and public beta recruitment for Vivo Z3 has been started by the company. Vivo Z3, as you may know, is the OEM’s 2018 device fueled by Snapdragon 670 processor. Launched with Android 8.1 (Oreo) the device currently awaits Android Pie.

Hopefully Vivo Z3 will soon get to taste last year’s Android OS dessert Pie, as public beta recruitment for the same has already been initiated by the company. This information came in form of an announcement at the company’s official Chinese help forum.

Currently, the first batch (5000 recruits) is being recruited from July 25 to July 30. In order to register, users will have to download & install an apk package and register for beta via the registration app. Vivo Z3 users who’ll enroll in the first batch will get bumped to Funtouch OS 9 (beta) on July 31.

Recruitment for the second batch will begin a week after that, i.e from August 07 to 11, with no limit on the number of recruits. Those who’ll enroll in the second batch will get Pie beta on August 12.

Apart from the official announcement post about recruitment for public beta, the Funtouch OS 9 (Android 9.0) upgrade plan page at the forum has also been updated with the latest info, and displays Public beta next to Vivo Z3 (as can be seen in the image below).

Now that the OEM will be initiating Funtouch OS 9 public beta testing on Vivo Z3 in a few days, here’s hoping the stable build of the same also comes out soon. Rest assured, we’ll be keeping a close watch and will let you know as and when that occurs.

NOTE: Vivo launched iQOO in China- a flagship grade phone powered by Snapdragon 855 SoC – a few months back. With a recent update, features like DC Dimming, new fingerprint unlock animation styles and SOS calling functionality etc were brought to the device. Here‘s the complete story.
