Verizon has a new software update ready to download for owners of the Nokia 3 V. The last time the Big Red pushed an update to this device prior to this moment was back in late October 2019 – the September security patch.

Ever since there has been no love for the Nokia 3 V. This is despite its global/carrier-unlocked variant – Nokia 3.2 – having received multiple updates during the same period of time.

At some point, Nokia 3.2 owners in Europe were also stuck on older security patches for months. But the device has since picked up both October, November, and December 2019 security patches.

For Verizon owners of the Nokia 3 V who have been in the dark, there is finally some light at the end of the tunnel. As of this writing, the device is receiving an update that bundles October, November, and December security patches in a single firmware.

Arriving as version 00VZW_1_35F, the base OS remains unchanged, although the device is still expected to be upgraded to Android 10 at some point.

Since the software is airborne, it will take some time before all Nokia 3 V units receive their OTA download notification, so you are advised to stay calm as you wait.

Also receiving a new software update is the Motorola Moto G6 Plus, a device that never sold officially in the U.S. The new firmware is arriving over the air as version PPWS29.116-20-16 and installs last month’s Android security patches.

Similar to the 3 V, the Moto G6 Plus firmware is based on Android Pie, but unlike its counterpart, Motorola isn’t expected to provide an OS upgrade to the G6 Plus. The device has already been upgraded once from Oreo to Pie and that’s it!

It may take some time before the OTA arrives on your G6 Plus unit, so stay patient as you wait. It shouldn’t be long before the update arrives.

Tech has been my playground for over a decade. While the Android journey began early, it truly took flight with the revolutionary Lollipop update. Since then, it's been a parade of Android devices (with a sprinkle of iOS), culminating in a mostly happy marriage with Google's smart home ecosystem. Expect insightful articles and explorations of the ever-evolving world of Android and Google products coupled with occasional rants on the Nest smart home ecosystem.
