Samsung’s Galaxy A50 was one of Samsung’s best selling devices of 2019. And for good reason. The device came with rather decent specifications, Samsung’s new One UI skin. A decent-looking body and all this at a rather reasonable price-point.

The device has been pretty well updated in its lifetime, receiving regular and timely Android security patches all along. The international variant even bagged the much-awaited Android 10 update along with its March 2020 Android security patch.

For anyone that has been in the Android ecosystem, it is pretty routine for updates to be available on the unlocked/ international variants of a device, weeks or even months before they are finally ready for deployment to the carrier versions of the same devices.

This is because, the updates have to come from the OEM to the Carrier, who then has to tweak it or incorporate changes, features or enhancements that they want to push out to the said devices, then have the software deployed to the devices. This approach, while not exactly elegant, is the way of life in the Android ecosystem.

That said, a little over a month since the Android 10 update went live for the Galaxy A50, the Verizon variant of the Galaxy A50 is today getting the much-awaited update.

This update brings the April 2020 Android security patch and bears the Software Version number QP1A.190711.020.A505USQU5BTD1. This is the 8th system update to ever roll out to the Verizon variant of this Samsung Galaxy A50.

This update comes with a super long changelog but in general, this software update brings Android 10, with new features including Live Transcribe, Smart Reply, improved Gestures, and Camera UX, and Focus Mode. Night Mode has also been renamed to Dark Mode.

This update should have hit devices a while back. However, due to delays, it was pushed forward but still expected to roll out sometime this month. More on our coverage on this can be found here.
