Twitch, the leading live streaming platform, is constantly evolving and introducing new features to enhance the experience for both streamers and viewers alike.

In its latest endeavor to provide streamers with valuable insights into their viewership, Twitch is currently testing three exciting features: ‘New and Returning Viewership’, ‘Views From Twitch’, and ‘Views From Outside Twitch’.

These features aim to empower streamers by offering them a deeper understanding of how viewers discover and engage with their content, both within and outside the Twitch ecosystem.

‘New and Returning Viewership’

This first feature, allows streamers to gain valuable insights into when and how new and engaged viewers watch their channels.

By utilizing the ‘New and Returning Viewership’ panel, streamers can ascertain crucial information about their audience.

An ‘Engaged Viewer’ is defined as someone who is logged in to twitch.tv and has watched a stream for at least five minutes.

A ‘New Engaged Viewer’ is classified as such if they return to the stream at any point within the following three years.

This information can prove invaluable in understanding viewer behavior patterns and tailoring content to retain and attract new viewers.

‘Views From Twitch’

The second feature, the ‘Views From Twitch’ panel, is a direct response to community feedback and streamers’ desire to understand how viewers discover their channels once they are on the Twitch platform.

This graph view provides streamers with valuable insights into their impressions and views data, particularly when their channel is featured on the Browse page, homepage recommendations, and other prominent Twitch sections.

By analyzing this information, streamers can gain a better understanding of which avenues drive the most traffic to their streams and adapt their strategies accordingly to optimize their reach and visibility.

‘Views From Outside Twitch’

The third feature, the ‘Views From Outside Twitch’ panel, aims to shed light on how viewers land on a channel from external sources such as social media platforms or video-sharing sites.

Twitch recognizes the importance of off-platform promotion and seeks to assist streamers in making informed decisions about where to promote themselves effectively.

By leveraging the new chart, streamers can analyze trends over time, identifying which sources are driving the most traffic to their channels.

Armed with this knowledge, streamers can refine their promotional efforts and focus on platforms that yield the highest engagement, while also minimizing time and resources on channels that don’t generate significant results.

However, the introduction of new statistics has sparked a variety of reactions. While some individuals are in favor of these new stats and believe they will provide valuable insights.

They believe that these fresh metrics will offer a more comprehensive understanding of various aspects, such as audience engagement, content performance, and user behavior.

On the other hand, there are skeptics who doubt the usefulness of these new stats.

They argue that the existing metrics and analytics tools already provide a wealth of information, and the introduction of additional statistics might only complicate the analysis process further.

I don’t see how this is even remotely helpful because growing on this platform has always been a pain and it’s not going to get any easier or better. It’s almost like what’s the point of adding a new feature, when current ones don’t even work. To what end is this?

Additionally, there is a group of people who find themselves confused about the functioning of the ‘returning viewer‘ metric.

We hope these doubts will be cleared in near future as these features are currently in the testing phase and are being rolled out to a select Twitch user.

Dev’s decision to test these features demonstrates Twitch’s commitment to providing streamers with powerful analytics and tools to help them succeed.
