New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on July 13, 2023) follows:

In the fast-paced world of social media, staying ahead of the curve is essential. Instagram’s Threads app, designed for sharing content with close friends and others, has been making waves since its launch.

But there are also some users who came out claiming that Meta released the app prematurely. It stems from the fact that the platform still hasn’t rolled out its web version.

Threads-

The app was also criticized for not having an option to show Threads posts in a chronological order.

However, you’ll be glad to know that Instagram’s CEO, Adam Mosseri has been actively engaging with Threads users and asking about the features they would want to have.

Upcoming features for Threads app

So we have listed all the upcoming features as officially confirmed by the head of Instagram. We’ll also be talking about the features that might not be released anytime soon.

Hashtags:

First and foremost, one of the most highly anticipated features will be the introduction of ‘Hashtags’ (1,2) to the Threads app.

Hashtags have long been a cornerstone of content discovery on various social media platforms. With this functionality, users will now be able to tag their posts with relevant hashtags.

So confirming the availability of the same, Mosseri said that post search feature will hopefully be made available too.

Translation on posts:

Additionally, Threads is set to become even more inclusive with the introduction of a ‘Translation’ feature.

Multi account:

Instagram has always given a convenient way to users to switch to other accounts quickly. That will soon be doable on Threads platform too, as Adam Mosseri confirms tagging the ‘Multi accounts’ option (1,2) on the list.

Edit Post:

Another highly requested feature making its way to Threads is the ‘Edit post’ option. With this, users will potentially have the ability to make edits to their posts even after they have been shared.

Don’t worry, it’s on the list 📋

Only Followed tab:

Moreover, Threads will soon introduce an ‘Only Followed’ tab (1,2), catering to the desire for a more personalized and focused feed.

We’re working on it, but the next week is all about getting rid of bugs and keeping the lights on…

An option to only allow followed people to reply to your posts is also in the works.

Features that might not make it anytime soon

While the release dates for these upcoming features have not been disclosed, Threads app users can eagerly anticipate their arrival. On the contrary, there are also some features that users may not be able to see for now.

Quality setting options for multimedia upload:

There have been discussions about introducing settings that allow users to have more control over the quality of their uploaded media.

However, it is not confirmed when or if this feature will be implemented, but it is surely a feature that many users are hopeful to see in the future.

DMs:

Another area of potential improvement lies within the direct messaging (DM) functionality of Threads. As the app primarily focuses on sharing content, enhancing the DM experience would be a logical step forward.

But, users will not get to see this function yet. Here’s what the CEO of Instagram has to say:

To start, we’re thinking we’ll lean into being open and steering people towards using other messaging apps to share threads. I don’t know if that’ll last long term, but for now we wanted to keep things simple and avoid adding yet another inbox to people’s phones…

Double tap to like:

Additionally, there have been discussions among users about the possibility of the double tap to like feature within Threads.

To this, Mosseri logically laid out the following argument:

While these potential features have been discussed and desired by users, it is important to remember that not all of them may come to fruition or be implemented in the near future.
