Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ are the phones that carried the burden of saving the company’s image following the horrible experiences some buyers of the Galaxy Note 7 went through in late 2016.

To be fair, the two performed as per the expectations by becoming the best-selling smartphones in Q2 2017 with a total of 19 million units sold across the globe in that period. But like every other Samsung flagship at some point, these two are no longer Samsung’s favorite sons.

Case in point is the new Android 10. The pair came preinstalled with Android 7.0 Nougat and got updated to Android 9 Pie earlier this year. This was the second and last major Android OS upgrade for these devices, something current owners may not be happy to hear.

Even so, it doesn’t mean Samsung has completely ditched the Galaxy S8 and S8+ now that they are over two years old. While the recent arrival of Samsung Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+ pushes the S8 pair further down the pecking order, Samsung is still showing some love for you.

Last week, the Exynos variants started receiving the latest August 2019 security patch. The update was quite heavy weighing in at 468MB, but the changelog didn’t have more than the said security patch and system-wide bug fixes and performance improvements.

If you own a T-Mobile variant of Samsung Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+, a similar update is now rolling out to your handset. The update is arriving as version G950USQS6DSH3 for the standard S8 and version G955USQS6DSH3 for the Plus variant.

Like the update that rolled out to the global variants, the T-Mobile variants also get bug fixes and performance improvements as part of the update, but apparently, there’s more. After installing the DSH3 update, you should also get a fix for the QualPwn vulnerability on your S8.

Other Redditors are reporting that the same August security update is also rolling to the Galaxy S8 and S8+ units on Sprint and Verizon, so be sure to check for its availability in the settings menu of your handset just in case the OTA hasn’t arrived yet.

If the update hasn’t reached your device, don’t fret. The rollout is over the air and usually, OTA updates may take days before all units receive the download notification. You can also try forcing the update via the Settings menu, but waiting for the OTA is always hassle-free.

Since then, it's been a parade of Android devices (with a sprinkle of iOS), culminating in a mostly happy marriage with Google's smart home ecosystem. Expect insightful articles and explorations of the ever-evolving world of Android and Google products coupled with occasional rants on the Nest smart home ecosystem.
