Roku aware TV guide keeps going to 'Recents' when opening channel guide; changes to input sources criticized

Roku users are reporting that when they try opening the channel guide, they’re taken to the ‘Recents’ list by default.

The company often makes UI or UX tweaks as experiments or with hopes to improve the experience.

However, these changes can occasionally lead to user dissatisfaction due to the bugs and issues that also make their way through with the changes.

Users have taken to Reddit and the official Roku community forums to vent (1,2,3,4,5,6) their frustrations about the issue.

At present, most users are trying to figure out how to set ‘All channels’ as the default page when they launch the channel guide. This is because it takes several steps to switch to another channel from the Recents screen.

Sadly, there doesn’t appear to be any quick fix for the issue at the time of writing this article.

The ball’s in Roku’s court now and we’ll have to wait and see how long it takes them to revert the change or at least provide an option to select ‘All channels’ as the default screen when opening the TV channel guide.

Luckily, Roku should now be aware of the concern as a community moderator confirmed that they’ll pass on the information to the team for further investigation.

The moderator is yet to post a follow up regarding the status of the situation. So it’s anyone’s guess on how long it’ll take Roku to sort out the issue, if at all.

Some users have also recently encountered a puzzling issue with their television sets, where the TV inputs have transformed into a nested menu on their main screen.

This unexpected change has left people searching for a solution on how to revert to their previous setup.

A Community Streaming Expert shed light on the situation by confirming that Roku is currently testing the waters with these changes for a small batch of “lucky” users.

Roku is testing some changes to the Roku home page with some “lucky” random users. Changes I know of are:

• A Continue Watching bar
• Channel grid of 4 smaller tiles wide instead of 3 “normal” tiles wide
• On Roku TVs, tiles for individual input sources gathered under one single Inputs tile.

I urge anyone receiving these tests to feed back their opinions, positive, negative, or with suggestions for improvement, to Roku. About the only way to do this is by posting here in the Community as some of you have done.
