Xiaomi fans who bought the Redmi Note 8, Redmi Note 8T and Redmi Note 8 Pro are perhaps some of the best-placed at the moment.
The trio is set to become only the second in the illustrious Redmi Note series to bag two major Android OS updates after the Redmi Note 5 Pro several years ago.
As of this writing, the beta version of Android 11 is already available in China for the Redmi Note 8. The Note 8 Pro also got the update, but it was quickly rolled back due to bootlooping issues.
On top of that, the trio is also in line for an update to MIUI 12.5 — an update that is deemed as a stopgap ahead of the major MIUI 13 release later this year.
With the stable MIUI 12.5 update not expected until April, Xiaomi is likely to push a couple or so MIUI 12-based updates to the Redmi Note 8 and co.
And according to a Mi forum feedback team member, one or maybe even all of these updates will tag along fixes for the excessive battery draining issue after the recent MIUI 12 update for Redmi Note 8 users.

Going by the reports above and many others doing rounds in the forums, Redmi Note 8 users have been experiencing excessive battery draining after the update to MIUI 12.
The issue is not limited to one regional ROM, but just about all variants of the Note 8 sold in India, Indonesia, and other global regions. On the brighter side, there seem to be some good news on this matter.
In response to a concerned Redmi Note 8 user, the aforementioned Mi forum feedback team member notes that affected users can expect a fix for this issue in an upcoming MIUI update.
Android system battery drain issue is already reported to developers and wait for the upcoming update.
As for when the update in question will arrive, your guess is as good as ours. That said, we will keep an eye on the matter and let you know when a bug-fixing update arrives for your Note 8.
