Realme, in the past couple of years, has made its brand name in the smartphone market as one of the reliable smartphone OEM that not only brings great products, but also provides great after-sales services in terms of providing the latest firmware or security updates.

Android 10 is not a new thing now, and Realme has also made this OS update available for a lot of its devices like the Realme X, Realme 5 Pro, Realme 3 Pro, etc.

The company is also one of those few OEMs, that lets its users unlock the bootloader of their devices, officially. And the latest device to get this support is the Realme XT. In the past, the company has extended this support to Realme X, Realme 5 Pro, Realme 3, Realme X50 5G, as well.

And it is no hidden fact that you need to have an unlocked bootloader if you want to root your device and install custom ROMs, modded apps, etc.

One of the moderators on the official Realme community channel has posted the official unlock tool for the Realme XT using which you can start to unlock the bootloader of your phone.

One downside to unlocking the bootloader on your Realme XT is that, after unlocking, Widevine L1 will be replaced by Widevine L3. Meaning that you will not be able to stream HD content on Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc.

If you also happen to be one of the owners of the Realme XT and are okay with the downside of unlocking the bootloader, follow the official guide below:

So, before we begin, make sure that you take a complete backup of your device because unlocking the bootloader wipes off the data on your device. Moreover, keep your Realme XT charged to a minimum of 60%. And you will need a USB cable and a PC/Laptop for unlocking.

You also need to download the Unlock Tool APK on your Realme XT units. Below is the link for download:

Once you are done with all the basic prerequisites, then you can head below for step by step instructions on how to unlock the bootloader.

Step 1

Open the unlock tool and click on “Start applying”.

Then, go through the Disclaimer and check ‘I have read and agreed to the aforesaid content’ and select “Submit application“.

Then you need to return back to the app interface and wait for about 15 minutes, so that the submitted application is checked by the Realme servers. Once the review is successful, then the unlock tool will say Review Successful on the app.

Then, you need to select Start the in-depth test and the device will reboot automatically. Your display will show this string on the screen: fast boot_unlock_verify ok

Step 2

Once you are done with step 1 then, you need to install the Fastboot tool on your PC (Windows or Linux or Mac). Now connect the phone to PC/Mac with a USB cable.

Extract the contents of the ADB and Fastboot tools in a folder and open a command prompt windows in the same folder where you have extracted the contents of the Fastboot tools.

In the Fastboot mode, follow the steps below:

– Enter the command: adb reboot bootloader
– Press “Enter” on your keyboard
– Enter the command: fastboot flashing unlock
– Press “Enter” on your keyboard

Once the command is executed, your phone will pop-up with an interface, where you need to press the volume up button to select Unlock the Bootloader option, and then press the power button to confirm.

That’s it! the bootloader of your Realme XT is now unlocked. The cherry on top is that the kernel source code for Realme XT is now available on GitHub.

This gives the developers a free-hand to eventually able to come up with TWRP, custom kernel, ROMs and much more with the help of these goodies.
