Developed and published by Niantic, the same studio that brought us the likes of Harry Potter Wizards Unite and Pokemon Go, Pikmin Bloom is an augmented reality-based game that incentivizes players to go out in the real world.

Launched in October last year, it is the third game in the series. Those who spend more time out in the real world are rewarded with Pikmin creatures and food. Players are called Mii and create a trail of flowers wherever they go.

That being said, the developers frequently bring new content to the game in the form of more creatures and cosmetics.

But sometimes these updates cause problems with players complaining about not being able to connect on mobile data after v37 update or the one where detector was showing mini-mart nearby instead of roadside.

And now, Pikmin Bloom players are reporting (1,2,3,4,5) that they the Apprentice Expedition badge is not counting their historical expeditions.

Many say that their expedition badge is not getting updated even though they have completed enough expeditions to rank up. The problem seems to be frustrating a lot of players who want to rank up their badges.

Some said they tried clearing app data and cache and reinstalling the game as a last resort but to no avail.

Below are some reports from Pikmin Bloom players who are stuck and are unable to progress their Apprentice Expedition Badge rank.

Hey @NianticHelp, got a question about #PikminBloom this time… Are you planning to give those badges out retrospectively or do I need to do 200 more expeditions on top of the >800 done? (Not even talking about the wrong date format for german locale…)

Either it’s completely stuck, or the badge unlock progress doesn’t include the expeditions you did before it was released, even though the historical total number is displayed and the “to go” number for the next level shows zero. In the case of the former: It’ll be broken forever or until they patch it. In the case of the latter: you’ll unlock the next tier when you do 198 more expeditions. Since the initial badge did unlock at all in the first place so we can see it: I think this case is likely to work. Just when I think Niantic’s incompetence can’t surprise me anymore, they always have something new to show us.

Thankfully, Niantic Support seems to be aware of the issue where the Apprentice Expedition badge is not counting historical expeditions and said they are currently looking into what is causing the problem.

Hello there! We’re aware of this issue, and our team is currently looking into it. Please keep an eye out for any further information. ^KP
