OxygenOS 11 (Android 11) update to bring Always on Display (AOD) support on OnePlus devices?

OxygenOS is considered by many to be the best OEM skin over Android. Not only does it bring a bucket full of useful features, but it also is one of the fastest, smoothest, and bloatware-free skins. Some even go as far as to say that it’s smoother than Google’s very own Pixel UI.

No matter what your thoughts on OxygenOS are, one thing is for certain and it is that OnePlus listens to its users. The company has made a tremendous amount of changes to give users what they want over the past few years.

It’s also one of the only major vendors to provide 3 years’ worth of major OS updates for its devices. Thus, the OnePlus 6 and 6T are also expected to bag the OxygenOS 11 update based on Android 11 sometime next year.

Speaking of which, OxygenOS 11 might finally bring one of the most requested features by users. Ever since the company decided to opt for using AMOLED displays on their devices, users and enthusiasts have been asking OnePlus to introduce an Always on Display feature.

This is something that has existed on Samsung devices for many years. Further, many other OEMs have brought an AOD-like feature to their devices including Xiaomi. But even after all the requests, OnePlus has failed to bring it up until now.

However, this might not be the case for long since OnePlus CEO, Pete Lau has dropped a hint on Twitter suggesting that the Always on Display feature might finally be introduced with OxygenOS 11 based on Android 11.

This isn’t much of a surprise as we’ve already reported that the AOD feature might arrive sometime between August or September. Although, with the Tweet, Pete Lau has practically confirmed, yet again, that the AOD feature will indeed arrive with the upcoming update.

Since most OnePlus smartphones including the OnePlus X, OnePlus 3/3T and newer come with an AMOLED display, we expect all Android 11 eligible phones from OnePlus to get the feature. But only time will tell if OnePlus chooses to leave out the feature for certain phones or not.
