Developed by Facebook Reality Labs, the Oculus Quest 2 is one of the best Virtual Reality headsets available in the market.

Launched in September of 2020 during the company’s Connect 7 event, it is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 and comes with 6GB of RAM.

While the hardware is pretty impressive, software issues such as some getting stuck on a black screen and others unable to select frame rates higher than 72Hz have troubled many in the last few months.

That said, Oculus Quest 2 users are now facing issues where the device is lagging or getting choppy while using Link on AMD GPUs (1,2,3).

It looks like the headset suddenly started dropping a lot of frames. While the games seem to load just fine, the random jittering is making the overall experience less enjoyable.

Some have tried toggling the console window in the debug tool and reinstalling the app but the problem persists.

Recently, by that I mean today, oculus link has started stuttering and screen tearing. I’ve set the encode bitrate to 0 and 250 with no difference. I’ve also reinstalled my graphics drivers, again no difference. I’ve already started an oculus support ticket but at least with my previous experience it’ll take a while before they respond. So maybe Reddit has a solution? I’m using a usb 3.0 cable with 2.4 Gb/s speed

Thankfully, Oculus Support was quick to comment on the matter and said it is a known issue with AMD GPU drivers 22.5.2. They also shared a workaround that requires users to downgrade graphic drivers to 22.5.1.

But others disagree and say the issue surfaced after the recent Oculus Quest 2 v41 update.

We hope Oculus and AMD work together and soon find out the root cause of the problem and fix the Quest 2 lagging issue at the earliest.

Rest assured, we will let you know when the issue is resolved so make sure you keep checking this space for further updates.
