Nokia’s Android One devices were supposed to be the best after Google phones when it comes to timely software updates, but this has only been good on paper, at least for the most part.

Whether it’s monthly security updates or major Android OS upgrades, Android One devices in general, not just Nokia phones, are just not offering what the program promises.

A good example is the latest update to Android 10, where the Nokia 8.1 is not only the only Nokia device in to get the new OS but also the only Android One device to do so.

Ironically, Xiaomi and Huawei, whose over-customized MIUI and EMUI skins are often singled out as the reason for delayed software updates, have already updated multiple devices to the stable Android 10. Samsung hasn’t rolled out Android 10, but it’s way ahead in terms of timely monthly security updates.

In its roadmap, Nokia did promise to bring Android 10 stable to the Nokia 9 PureView and Nokia 7.1 alongside the Nokia 8.1, but the closest the former two have come to a new OS is the beta. This is set to continue at least this month now that the Nokia 7.1 is receiving its November security update.

The OTA update weighs in at 62.3MB. As usual with airborne updates, it will take some time before all Nokia 7.1 units pick up this update. Rather than wait, you can grab the file from the link below and flash it manually.

  • Device: Nokia 7.1
  • Channel: Stable
  • Version: 3.54P
  • Android: 9
    • Type: OTA

A similar November security update is also rolling out to the Nokia 6.1, Nokia 6.1 Plus and the aging Nokia 7 Plus. These three devices are also in line to receive updates to Android 10 after the Nokia 7.1 picks it up, meaning the wait could go all the way to early 2020.

The OTA weighs in at 106.6MB and even though slightly bigger than the Nokia 7.1, it doesn’t bring any notable new additions besides the latest November security update. Since the OTA might take a while to arrive, you can grab the OTA file below and sideload it only if you know how to.

  • Device: Nokia 6.1
  • Channel: Stable
  • Version: 3.54P
  • Android: 9
    • Type: OTA

Owners of the Nokia 6.1 Plus should watch out for their November security update carrying the same 3.54P build number, but its just about the same size as the Nokia 7.1, weighing in at 62MB.

If for some reason you can’t stick around long enough for the OTA to arrive, feel free to grab the OTA file right below and install it manually on your Nokia 6.1 Plus.

  • Device: Nokia 6.1 Plus
  • Channel: Stable
  • Version: 3.54P
  • Android: 9
    • Type: OTA

Last but not least, the November security update is also rolling out to the Nokia 7 Plus as version 3.54P and weighs in at 97.1MB, which again means the wait for Android 10 goes on.

Tech has been my playground for over a decade. While the Android journey began early, it truly took flight with the revolutionary Lollipop update. Since then, it's been a parade of Android devices (with a sprinkle of iOS), culminating in a mostly happy marriage with Google's smart home ecosystem. Expect insightful articles and explorations of the ever-evolving world of Android and Google products coupled with occasional rants on the Nest smart home ecosystem.
