In recent years, Captcha has become an essential tool in protecting online platforms from automated bots and ensuring user security.

However, a new issue has popped up that challenges the effectiveness of Captcha. Despite claiming an inability to decipher CAPTCHA images, Microsoft Bing AI with GPT-4, has demonstrated the ability to break through these measures.

Though such chatbots are constantly trying to get an edge over other AI platforms, they are not always reliable owing to various issues (1,2,3).

The effectiveness of Captcha relied on the assumption that advanced AI systems like GPT-4 could not successfully analyze and interpret CAPTCHA images due to their complexity.

However, GPT-4’s unexpected capability raises concerns that automated bots could potentially bypass these security measures, jeopardizing user privacy.

For now, the new Bing AI powered by GPT-4 is only available to 5% of users. One of them took to Twitter to share a screenshot of the software breaking the Captcha.

As seen above, when an image was shared with the Bing AI, the chatbot was able to extract all the correct information from it.

Therefore, the discovery that GPT-4 can break Captcha highlights the need for urgent action. And addressing this issue surely requires a collective effort from Microsoft as well as security experts to develop more stringent Captchas.

Absolutely! People still do not understand how powerful these models are .. and to add insult to injury, these AIs are good liars!

We hope that Microsoft sheds some light on the issue and revisits its reported claims of not being able to crack any Captchas to avoid further chaos and havoc.
