Update 1 (March 19, 2024)

05:06 pm (IST): Several Janitor AI users have taken to Reddit and X to report (1,2,3,4,5,) that they aren’t receiving any responses from bots. The issue seems to have popped up at least a few hours ago. When trying to interact with chatbots, users get an error message “Request failed with status code 400.” Here’s a screenshot for reference:

At the moment, there do not appear to be any workarounds nor did we spot any official acknowledgment at the time of this update.

One of the main reasons Janitor AI has recently gained popularity is that it allows users to disable the NSFW (Not Safe for Work) filter, giving them more control over their chatting experience.

However, like any other bot, Janitor AI also has its fair share of bugs and issues.

For instance, we recently covered the issues where Janitor AI Discord server moderators were reportedly banning users for no apparent reason, and the bot’s paywall got criticized. Now, a new issue has surfaced.

Janitor AI ‘undefined is not an object’ error message troubling users

According to reports (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10), multiple Janitor AI users are witnessing an issue where they get the ‘Undefined is not an object (evaluating ‘JSON.parse(h.substring(6)).choices[0]’)’ error time and again.

Notably, this happens whenever one tries to send a message. Users claim that the bot fails to respond and keeps producing error messages.

No matter how many times they refresh the page or switch to different bots, they still experience the same problem.

In addition to this, some are also getting a ‘cannot read properties of defined (reading ‘0’)’ error when interacting with the chatbot. And this is undeniably bad news for all those who have been unable to chat with it for the past few days.

Users are confused and cannot understand why they are getting such errors repeatedly. Some are speculating that this is happening due to some server-related issues.

A person alleges to be getting an error stating ‘model is currently overloaded with different requests’ when attempting to check their API key.

Surprisingly, they are experiencing such problems even after trying different API keys or creating new accounts.

Another user gets an error message suggesting that there is an issue with parsing JSON data, specifically while accessing the choices property from an undefined or null object.

And understandably, those affected have taken to Twitter and Reddit to request a fix.

Users have also tried different troubleshooting steps like switching off and restarting their device and router, but all in vain.

However, you should note that Janitor AI is currently not generating revenue, and the team behind it is small.

Nevertheless, they are actively working on improving the server capacity to address the issues that have arisen as a result of their sudden popularity.
