The first signs of LG V30 Android Pie update outside the home market of South Korea popped up in July 2019 when the device’s Android Pie kernel source code appeared online. Indeed, shortly after, the first Pie-based beta build went live.

The beta-testing phase didn’t last long given that the OS had already been released for the Korean variant of the LG V30. Before the end of the same month, the stable version arrived in Europe.

As usual, the update was available first via the LG Bridge before the OTA download notifications started arriving. However, the rollout was staggered, with some regions having to wait for a few more days or even weeks before downloading the OS onto their V30 handsets.

One of the regions to join the V30 Pie party a bit late is Australia. The update started showing up earlier this month via the LG Bridge, allowing early adopters to grab the new OS and install it ahead of the rest.

Downloaded and installed using LG Bridge, no problems so far.

Not available OTA, but I installed LG Bridge and it’s downloading via my desktop now.

Soon after, though, the OS went live via OTA updates and everyone was happy.

Little did they know that their joy was shortlived. Not long after installing Pie on the LG V30, some users started reporting mixed reactions. Several have reported some good stuff about the V30 Pie update.

However, it seems others have had some of the nastiest experiences since switching from Oreo to Pie on their V30 handsets. Issues ranging from excessive battery drain and Bluetooth and audio to loss of personal folders and screen layouts and even sluggish performance have popped up.

My pie update seems to be running fine, albeit a bit slower. Tempted to downgrade though.

I can’t get Power amp to reliably start playing when i insert headphones since upgrading. It used to work 100%, now if the phone has been sleeping for a while Poweramp will open but not start playing automatically.

From the look of things, it seems these issues have worsened to a point that LG has decided to pull the LG V30 Android Pie update from its servers. As of this writing, the Pie update is neither available through the LG Bridge nor OTA.

Hi there, I’ve got this update showing up but wherever it downloads to 90%, it says invalid software. Does anyone else have this issue? Thanks!

LG Bridge crashes on both of my Mac OS devices. It was fine, USB driver update, then crashes. Wouldn’t run without the driver update on desktop, so forced to install something that makes it crash, awesome.

Apparently, it’s not just Australia that is affected. European users of the LG V30 are also reporting that the update to Android Pie may have been canceled. The Korean company is expected to push another update to the V30 with build V30c that hopefully addresses the ongoing issues.

As for when this bug-fixing update will arrive, it’s anyone guess, but we hope it won’t be long considering the issues seem to be quite widespread. Hopefully, all will be well by the time the OS starts gracing the T-Mobile variants of the V30 in the U.S.

Tech has been my playground for over a decade. While the Android journey began early, it truly took flight with the revolutionary Lollipop update. Since then, it's been a parade of Android devices (with a sprinkle of iOS), culminating in a mostly happy marriage with Google's smart home ecosystem. Expect insightful articles and explorations of the ever-evolving world of Android and Google products coupled with occasional rants on the Nest smart home ecosystem.
