LG smartphones are yet to leave some mark in the smartphone industry which is captured by the likes of Samsung, Xiaomi, OnePlus and others. The devices offered by LG lack exciting features and new design elements which in turn, doesn’t motivate users much to go for LG devices.

Another flaw with LG lies in its software update cycle. The company has just not been able to come up with fast updates for the devices in its portfolio. Customers now want the best smartphone along with fast and speedy delivery of updates.

Both the above two reasons have left a great impact on the sales of the LG Mobiles which can be clearly seen in the official report from LG. Looking at the report, the LG mobile sales declined by almost 21% YoY for Q2 2019 as compared to Q2 2018.

And now coming to the second point of slow software updates, the data in a report by Counterpoint Research also depicts the same. The reports show that only 16% of the LG Android smartphones sold after Q3 2018 (till Q2 2019) have been upgraded to Android 9 Pie. These numbers are not at all what we expect out of a big brand like LG.

However, there is a new update being rolled out for the users of the LG G8s ThinQ. The new update brings in the September security patch and is currently available for LG G8s devices in the European region.

The patch carries the version V10i and weighs around 229.58MB in size. So make sure that you are using a stable mobile data or WiFi connection for downloading the update. Below is the short and crisp changelog (translated) and the screenshot shared by one of the users:

You may well be aware that until now, the T-Mobile and the AT&T variants of the LG G8 ThinQ received the September security update. Moreover, in the previous month, LG rolled out the 2nd Android 10 beta for the LG G8 ThinQ.

Moving on, another LG smartphone has started receiving the September security update. The T-Mobile variant of the LG V40 has reportedly received the security patch as confirmed by the users. It carries version number V405TA20I and weighs in around 190MB in size.

Below is the official changelog of the update:

What’s new:

  • Security updates from Google have been included in this update.

Keep in mind, that the updates are often rolled out in batches and may take some time to reach your device. So, you have to be patient and let the update arrive on your device via OTA.

If you have not received this update on your LG G8 ThinQ and LG V40 then, you can manually check for it by heading to Settings>>About Phone>>System Updates>>Update. If there is any update, you will be notified of it and you can tap it to install the latest update on your device.

TO sum it up, while other OEMs have already geared up for releasing Android 10 for eligible devices, it does not seem to be the case with LG. Neither LG was amongst the first brands to roll out the Android Pie update for its devices, nor it is expected to come up with any surprise with Android 10.

We will keep you in the loop if we have more information in this regard.
