LG is rolling out a new LG G8 ThinQ Android 10 beta update, the second following the release of the first beta version in May 2019. The update is available for download in the company’s home country of South Korea.

LG was among several non-Google device makers that were invited into the third beta version of Android Q back in May 2019, the first of its kind to host more than 15 non-Pixel smartphones.

The search giant released the third developer preview of the OS at the Google I/O event and confirmed the LG G8 ThinQ was one of the devices invited to try the unreleased OS. The first firmware bearing version QKQ1.190406.002 went live on the very day.

As I write this, the second version of the LG G8 ThinQ Android 10 beta update is live in Korea. The update comes as version QKQ1.190716.003 and is meant for the country’s G8 ThinQ variant with model number LM-G820N, which is sold through LG U+, SKT, and KT carriers.

For those who also have the unlocked variant with the same model number, this update is also available for you. Folks at My LG can confirm that this firmware doesn’t work on any other LG G8 variant, so don’t try your sneaky moves here.

According to LG, the new Android 10 beta update for the LG G8 ThinQ also tags along some known issues, as listed below:

Timestamp of movie thumbnails appears to be “0:00” regardless of actual play time
Display Size option does not work properly
LG features are not applied
Camera has been implemented only with limited functionality
Due to Q-OS compatibility issues, some apps on the Google Play might not work properly

Google is expected to begin rolling out the stable version of Android 10 today, September 3. The update tags along quite a good number of interesting features – features that the LG G8 ThinQ Android 10 beta update has also picked up.

We are talking the likes of system-wide dark mode, dynamic depth format for photos, better control over location settings, new accessibility options, and so on.

As already pointed out, this is only the second beta update for the LG G8 ThinQ since joining Android Q. Given that it took months for this to arrive, we expect that this version is pretty close to the finished product and that the stable version will roll out soon.

Tech has been my playground for over a decade. While the Android journey began early, it truly took flight with the revolutionary Lollipop update. Since then, it's been a parade of Android devices (with a sprinkle of iOS), culminating in a mostly happy marriage with Google's smart home ecosystem. Expect insightful articles and explorations of the ever-evolving world of Android and Google products coupled with occasional rants on the Nest smart home ecosystem.
