Google is very proud of the AI-powered exclusive features on its Pixel phones and reminds us of it every chance it gets. The latest Pixel 8 series arrived with a ton of those, like ‘Best Take’ for taking group selfies without weird or blurry facial gestures, which now stars in the latest ad from Google Japan.

Pixel 8’s ‘Best Take’ stars in latest Google Japan ad

Since their birth, Pixel smartphones have been associated with the ‘techie’ public, as they were the spiritual successors of the old Google Nexus, smartphones aimed primarily at developers. However, that’s not exactly what the company intended, and it has been working hard to change that perception.

Google wants its Pixel phones to be seen as devices for everyone, for which they focused on a section as mainstream as photography from the beginning. In addition to the powerful image processing of its devices, the brand has recently been adding multiple AI-powered features that make it even easier to create content and take good photos.

With this in mind, the latest Google Japan ad is focused on the ‘Best Take’ feature from the Google Pixel 8 series, which allows you to ‘fix’ blurry or strange facial expressions in a group selfie in a few taps.

The short ad shows a group of friends composed of Nozomi Omine, Maiwa Oguni, Ai Tanaka, Rei Mukai, Hana Yoshida, and Jun Obata taking a group selfie with the Google Pixel 8 Pro, choosing the best facial expression with a simple touch for any of them.

In the age of selfies, the Best Take feature can easily become a crowd favorite, so it seems like a smart move to give it more exposure. This is another move by the company in its quest to conquer the Japanese market, along with its event organized together with LEGO, or the ad where they boast of the video recording capabilities of Pixel devices.

In Japan, Apple is currently clearly dominant in the smartphone segment with around 68% market share. Only time will tell if the ‘direct attack’ promoting the content creation capabilities of Pixel phones (like Pixel 8’s ‘Best Take’) will work in attracting users.
