iOS 16.3 update still doesn't fix App Library sorting algorithm where apps appear in wrong categories

Apple’s iOS 16.3 brought several improvements, bug fixes, and security updates for the iPhone. The update enabled end-to-end encryption for iCloud, introduced Security Keys for Apple ID, and more.

However, like any other update, iOS 16.3 is also not immune to various bugs and issues that creep up every now and then. For instance, the ‘blue keys on keyboard’ issue re-emerged with the update.

iOS 16.3 update still doesn’t fix App Library sorting algorithm

Some iOS users (1,2,3,4,5,6,7) are now experiencing an issue where the App Library sorting algorithm appears broken after the recent 16.3 update.

My App Library is a mess because iPhone rearranges apps between categories at least once a week. So on the screenshots there are apps that are usually in “Productive”, “Reading” or “Creativity” folders but now they all are here in “Other”. Is there a way to fix that behaviour?

Reports suggest that the App Library now shows certain apps in the wrong categories. For instance, Apple Podcasts now shows up under the ‘Health & Fitness’ category for some.

There have been problems with the iOS App Library’s sorting mechanism for quite some time now. We previously saw how it even rearranged folders automatically.

We also highlighted an issue with some iOS 14 users where the App Library alphabetical sorting feature was broken when searching an app.

However, despite the most recent iOS 16.3 update, some related problem appears to persist. In fact, there are cases where some apps don’t appear in the App Library altogether.

The fact that categories like HomeKit/Home are missing is also appalling for some. Therefore, it has led to the demand for a feature that could let them create custom categories.

No official word in sight

Apple hasn’t acknowledged this issue yet. Hopefully, the team investigates the issue and rectifies this unusual behavior permanently.

We also haven’t come across any workaround that can help resolve this problem temporarily.
