New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on April 27, 2021) follows:

Apple released the iOS 14.5 update for the public yesterday and oh boy does it bring some interesting new features and improvements.

The major highlight with the new software update is the option for users to unlock their iPhones (iPhone X and later) with their Apple Watch Series 3 and later while attempting to use Face ID when wearing a face mask.

That said, the update also fixes a bunch of issues that were affecting many users. One such problem that has been fixed is the dim glow at low brightness levels with black backgrounds on the iPhone 12 series.

iPhone 12 series users had noticed the issue since it resulted in a green/yellow tint on the screen when the brightness was lowered.

Apple did optimize the dim glow at low brightness issue on the iPhone 12 with the iOS 14.5 beta 2 but users on the stable software channel have had to wait all this while for the issue to be optimized.

Here’s the complete list of things the update fixes, including the dim glow at low brightness levels with black backgrounds on the iPhone 12 series:

– Messages at the bottom of the thread may be hidden by the keyboard under certain circumstances
– Deleted messages may still appear in Spotlight search
– Messages may persistently fail to send texts in some threads
– Mail would not load new emails for some users until restarting the device
– Call blocking and identification section may not appear in Phone settings

– iCloud Tabs may not appear in Safari
– iCloud Keychain could be prevented from turning off
– Reminders created via Siri may be unintentionally set for early morning hours
– Battery health reporting system will recalibrate maximum battery capacity and peak performance capability on iPhone 11 models to address inaccurate estimates of battery health reporting for some users (https://support.apple.com/HT212247)
– Optimization to reduce the appearance of a dim glow that may appear at reduced brightness levels with black backgrounds on iPhone 12 models

– AirPods audio routing to incorrect device for Automatic Switching
– AirPods Automatic Switching notifications might be missing or duplicated

It’s worth pointing out that Apple has only optimized the software to reduce the appearance of the dim glow that may appear at reduced brightness levels with black background on iPhone 12 models.

This does not mean that the problem will vanish after you install the new update on your iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, or iPhone 12 Mini. Although, it should be less noticeable.

That said, we’re yet to come across reports from users who can confirm that the stable iOS 14.5 update fixed the dim glow at low brightness levels with black backgrounds issue on the iPhone 12 series.

So feel free to drop a comment below to confirm if you’ve noticed any difference after installing the latest update.

Update 1 (June 02, 2021)

IST 01:55 pm: The issue with brightness dimming continues to trouble users even after the iOS 14.5 update. This has gone way past the software issue and now appears to be a hardware issue. The only solution to this is to get faulty units replaced.
