New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on February 07, 2020) follows:

Huawei scored a big win when the UK recently went against the desires of the U.S. by allowing the Chinese company to build its 5G infrastructure. The decision led President Donald Trump to reportedly express “apoplectic” fury towards his U.K. counterpart, Boris Johnson.

While the U.S. sees this as a huge loss, Huawei will relish the chance to participate in the UK’s 5G rollout plans, even in the lowest capacity possible. Whatever happens, though, has little to no bearing on the current LTE devices like the troubled Huawei Mate 20 Pro.

Troubled? Sure. But why? Well, software updates, to be more specific, the update to EMUI 10 based on the latest Android 10 OS for variants of the device sold through EE UK.

To recall, the first stable Mate 20 Pro EMUI 10 update arrived in mid-November 2019. As usual, the initial rollout was limited to Europe, but a week or so later, the wider rollout kicked off.

During this period, the Mate 20 Pro Android 10 update has made it to various variants, including carrier-locked models on Vodafone and Three UK, but nothing has been spotted on the EE variant.

In mid-January, the rollout was confirmed to have been halted, at least for those in India. But it resumed not long ago, with even more reports coming from Canada confirming that indeed, the wider rollout is back on.

Still, there is nothing yet for EE variants. And apparently, the wait could even be longer than thought, at least if the conversation below between a Mate 20 Pro owner and EE support is anything to go by.

Apparently, the update will arrive in Q2 2020, which puts it somewhere in April 2020. On the other hand, Huawei Mobile UK says the Mate 20 Pro EMUI 10 update is already available, but the rollout is gradual and will be distributed across February and March 2020.

Hello, there has been a lot of confusion around the release date for EMUI 10. In November we released an unstable test version, the stable version is now being released across February and March for Honor devices. If you haven’t received it yet please be patient.

For those with carrier-unlocked Mate 20 Pro units on EE, the trick to getting aboard the Android 10 ship is to swap the SIM card with Vodafone, Three or any other carrier for that matter and you should be able to download the new firmware straight away.

When done, insert your EE SIM back into the phone and pick up from where you left off on Pie.

Update 1 (February 10, 2020)

Tech has been my playground for over a decade. While the Android journey began early, it truly took flight with the revolutionary Lollipop update. Since then, it's been a parade of Android devices (with a sprinkle of iOS), culminating in a mostly happy marriage with Google's smart home ecosystem. Expect insightful articles and explorations of the ever-evolving world of Android and Google products coupled with occasional rants on the Nest smart home ecosystem.
