We recently highlighted a story on the lack of Honor View 10 software updates in the U.S. and India, a device that is still receiving regular updates in China and Europe.

Some Honor View 10 owners in these markets started making their frustrations at the lack of regular software updates known to the company, something the Huawei subsidiary seems to have been following keenly.

While responding to a concerned View 10 user about the prospects of the next Android security patch on the device, Honor India support suggested that the device will only receive software updates when the company feels the need to do so.

Thank you for reaching out to us. Honor View 10 has the security patch update version in July 2019 for improved system security as of now. Further, the device will get the security patch update, when required. Kindly stay tuned with us to know further update information.

For a device that is still expected to receive another major OS upgrade to EMUI 10 based on Android 10, this wasn’t the kind of response anyone would have fancied from the company, but coming from a member of the customer support team, it wasn’t surprising at all.

Usually, these keyboard warriors respond to queries with half-baked answers and sometimes untrue statements. Nonetheless, it seems the cries of India’s Honor View 10 owners have finally been listened to as the company is planning to push a new security update to the device beginning next week.

According to a statement from yet another Honor India support member, the View 10 is being lined up for an October 2019 security update this coming week. How true this is remains to be seen, but with only a few days ahead of us, we should find out soon.

Interestingly, Huawei has the Honor View 10 on the list of devices that receive monthly security updates, but it seems this is only true for those in China. In other markets, the device is lagging behind Google’s schedule and it seems things won’t be changing for the good.

For those using the View 10 in the U.S., the device’s software update fate is still unknown, especially with the ongoing wrangles between the Trump government and China. This is despite the promise that the ban won’t affect software updates for existing devices.

Hopefully, the ban won’t stand in the way of the Honor View 10 update to EMUI 10 based on Android 10 later on.

Going by the latest info coming from Honor Service, Sept security update for Honor Play should also be arriving this week.
