Not every time can we pull out our phone from the pocket to check the notifications (suppose you are standing in a bus travelling). Even if you succeed in the mission after a struggle, an unwanted promotional message may irk you to the core. But with a smart band on your wrist, you won’t have to go through any of these.

Looking at the market, there are two budget smart bands- Mi Band 4 and Honor Band 5. Both feature 0.95-inch colour display with 120x 240 pixels resolution. Even the price is not quite different from each other. So, where does they significantly differ?

SpO2 sensor! Yeah, Mi Band 4 lacks it. In case you are not aware, it tracks the blood oxygen saturation level. Simply put, an SpO2 sensor gets you a number that indicates how much oxygen is getting to the organs. Normal oxygen saturation levels are between 95 and 100 percent. Anything under 90 is considered abnormally low.

How cool it is to measure the blood oxygen saturation all by yourself! But wait! The company didn’t enable the sensor out of the box. And, it was like having a gun without bullets. However, Honor confirmed an update with SpO2 monitor earlier.

Now, the feature started rolling out via a stable update (the latest version of Huawei Health app is 10.0.1.011 and that of the Band is 1.1.0.93). You won’t have to do anything in particular after updating. Just wear your Honor Band and allow the sensor a few seconds for the calculation. Of course, you can repeat the process if you want, by pressing the refresh button.

Along with the SpO2 monitor, the latest update also brings playback controls for music. Inside the app, you can now see a new option- Music playback controls. Toggling it on will display the typical music buttons (play/pause/previous/next) along with the volume controls.

Of course, the default music player of almost all the devices and many third-party streaming services are compatible with the new functionality. We believe they will extend the support in case you end up having troubles with any music application.
