Google Wallet (or Google Pay) is the payment service of the Mountain View company. It is widely used around the world thanks to its reliable performance, although it also offers other advantages.

As an example of these other advantages, currently Google Wallet is giving away free money or rewards to some users ‘for dogfooding the Google Pay Remittance experience’, brightening their days.

Google Wallet (Pay) giving away free money ‘for dogfooding the Google Pay Remittance experience’

Social platforms such as Reddit or Twitter have begun to fill with reports of Google Wallet (Pay) users receiving ‘free money’ thanks to the company’s initiative.

Multiple users received between $15 and $25, though others got up to $100. In all cases, the concept of money received is ‘dogfooding the Google Pay Remittance experience’.

I just got almost $100 in six different cashback rewards for “dogfooding the Google pay remittance experience”. What does that mean? I’ve never gotten a Cashback reward before. All of a sudden I got six different ones. Anyone have any idea why?

Very nice! You got me beat by $15… I was on my way to get my windshield replaced and then a crap ton of notifications kept popping up as i’m waiting at the shop. when the dust settled $225. I’m not going to complain.

If you wonder what ‘dogfooding’ means, it is usually related to using some service or option that is not yet ready for a massive rollout. Here’s a quick explanation:

“Dogfood” is a term used for features within Google (and other companies) that are not yet meant to be live to general users. It appears to be an unintended early launch, presumably it has something to do with the new price guarantee for flights. Nothing to be worried about.

Even if you don’t get a notification mentioning that you got the ‘free money’, you can check it manually. You just have to open your GPay app and follow this path:

Open GPay, swipe to the “Deals” tab, and see if you have any “rewards” near the top. That’s where I’m seeing this.
