As the anticipation builds for Google’s upcoming Pixel 8a smartphone, set to debut in May, rumors about its potential price have been popping up every now and then. Previous leaks and speculation suggested that the Pixel 8a might see a significant price increase compared to its predecessor, the Pixel 7a. However, according to the latest leak, those rumors appear to be unfounded.

The folks over at SmartPrix have obtained pricing information for the Pixel 8a, and it’s good news for those who are looking to score Google’s upcoming mid-ranger. Contrary to earlier speculation, the Pixel 8a will maintain the same price point as the Pixel 7a when it launched in the United States.

To be precise, the Pixel 8a with 128GB of storage will cost $499, while the 256GB variant will be priced at $559. This pricing structure aligns with the Pixel 7a’s launch prices, essentially quashing any concerns about a potential price hike for the upcoming model. My best guess is that earlier leaks might have mistaken the price of the 256GB variant as the starting price.

The fact that Google has chosen to keep the Pixel 8a’s pricing consistent with its predecessor is great news. However, considering that the Pixel 8a doesn’t seem to be bringing any gaming-changing updates over the Pixel 7a, it makes sense that the Pixel 8a will retain the launch price of the 7a.

According to leaks and rumors, the Pixel 8a will boast a 120Hz OLED display with a punch-hole cutout, a decent upgrade from the Pixel 7a’s 90Hz panel. Additionally, the device is rumored to be powered by Google’s latest Tensor G3 chipset, the same powerful processor found in the flagship Pixel 8 series. Further enhancements include a larger 4,500mAh battery compared to the Pixel 7a’s 4,385mAh cell. Better battery life was something I had on my wishlist for the Pixel 8a, so I hope this minor bump translates into something that’s noticeable.
