Google is going to make it easier to share passwords with its Password Manager tool for Pixel and other Android devices. This new option aligns with a similar feature currently under development for Google Chrome on desktops.

The core idea is simple. When you view a saved password in Google Password Manager, you’ll see a new “Share” button. Tapping it will present a dialog explaining that you can securely share a copy of your password with members of your designated Google family group. The hidden functionality was spotted by AssembleDebug of TheSpAndroid, who confirmed that they were able to activate the feature with a flag. The tipster also shared a few screenshots of the UI that you can check out below:

This functionality promises to make it much easier to coordinate the use of shared services – think streaming subscriptions, online shopping accounts, or even Wi-Fi credentials.

Simplifying password sharing within families recognizes the reality of shared accounts. By providing a more secure way to do this, Google aims to reduce the common practice of insecure password distribution.

Google has not announced an official release date for this new feature that’ll let you share passwords on your Pixel and other Androids with ease. Based on its current development stage, it could become accessible within the next few months.

Google’s integration of password sharing highlights the ongoing evolution of online security. It’s a step towards convenience, but we should continue encouraging the adoption of even more secure methods like passkeys and two-factor authentication for the most robust protection of our online accounts.
