Google Keep is preparing to let you access your notes directly from your lockscreen, potentially streamlining your note-taking process. So Pixel and other Android smartphone users will conveniently be able to slap notes on the lockscreen rather than diving into the app.

This functionality is linked to a behind-the-scenes change in Android 14 that allows apps to be designated as the default “note-taking” app. Early support for this feature has been spotted in Google Keep, though it hasn’t gone live yet.

Recent updates to Google Keep (version 5.24) now include a “coming soon” message when users try to set up lockscreen access, as spotted by 9to5Google. This indicates the feature is in active development.

To check out this new notice in Android 14, you can try forcing the note-taking role in the Developer Options and assign Google Keep as the note-taking app. I wasn’t able to get the notice to show up on my Pixel 7a running the Android 15 DP 1 update, neither could we spot it on our Pixel 8 on the Android 14 beta.

If and when the feature goes live, you’ll be able to perform certain actions such as:

  • See recent Google Keep notes directly on your lockscreen.
  • Potentially create new notes from the lockscreen.
  • Enjoy enhanced stylus support for easier note-taking.

While the feature isn’t yet available, the groundwork is being laid. Keep an eye on future Google Keep updates, as this convenient change could be arriving soon.
