We’ve all come to rely on those handy trending searches on the Google app, keeping a finger on the pulse of what the world is buzzing about. However, multiple Google Pixel users are reporting an unusual bug in the Google app where trending searches are suddenly not updating for them. A deeper look further reveals the issue isn’t just limited to Pixel users. It affects all Android and iOS users at large, suggesting it has everything to do with the Google app.
It seems that for some reason, trending searches have gotten stuck in the past, refusing to budge past February 14 for some and lingering in the last 3 days for others (1,2,3). While this anomaly might seem charmingly retro, it’s definitely not ideal for staying up-to-date on the latest hot topics. My trending searches are stuck in the past week both on Android and iOS, and so do my colleagues’. I was surprised when I saw Lazio vs Bayern Munich in my trending searches yet the game was played on Valentine’s Day.
While this issue seems to be affecting Android and iOS users alike, there’s no word on whether Google’s working on a solution or even if the team is aware of the problem. But you can bet once they do it won’t be long before a fix rolls out. After all, Google heavily relies on search and with trending searches not updating properly within the mobile app, they are probably losing a lot of traffic and revenue.
In the meantime, don’t despair! You can still stay informed with the good old-fashioned search bar, or explore other news sources to get your daily dose of what’s trending. And hey, maybe this little time warp is a chance to rediscover some forgotten gems from the past few days (or, for some, weeks!).
We will update this article when we have new developments.
