Remember the erratic screen flashes/flickers on Google’s flagship Pixel 2 phones that we highlighted back in October? We now have some new information on the matter. What’s coming to light is that the company is working on fixing the problem.

While a few lucky users already received replacements, others were told by Google Support that the matter is being worked on, and will be fixed soon. It’s also worth mentioning that even some RMA requests were denied by the company, saying a software update would resolve the issue.

Following are some user comments revealing what they got to hear from the Google:

I experienced this and Google Support has assured me that the Feb. update addresses this. I have updated and so far it has not happened again

I contacted Google and they said they’re aware of the issue and it will be fixed in an update soon

I had a web chat with Google support yesterday, they said they were aware of the issue and we’re already looking into it

When I was talking to Google support, they did mention this was something their engineers were aware of but didn’t have an immediate fix

I called Google yesterday and was told this is a software issue and that an update would be in the next “patch” (security patch?)

Google refuses to give me a replacement stating the device they send could be having the same issue again

I tried to RMA and they said no. That Google is aware of the issue and are working on an update…

So apparently, Google plans to fix the issue in a software update, because of which they are refusing replacements. While the company hasn’t said much on the matter officially, we hope they do the needful and fix the glitch sooner than later.

Just in case you get to hear the same or anything else from Google, don’t forget to drop us a comment.

For a quick refresher, the screen flash behavior shows up intermittently while locking/unlocking the display. It looks like flickering in some cases, as can be seen in the proceeding user-shared video:
