Original story (published on August 19) follows:

The Android community today is bubbling with excitement over the upcoming release of the next version of Android- Android 11. We have already seen a number of Beta builds for a few eligible devices, especially Google’s own Pixel-line which are expected to get updated on Day 1.

Other OEMs like Samsung, Oppo, OnePlus among others are also working on their own custom skins for the upcoming version of Android in the form of One UI 3, ColorOS 8 and OxygenOS 11 respectively. Even Xiaomi is reportedly working on Android 11 for a few of its devices.

Not to be left behind, and despite its current challenges, Huawei is also working on its custom skin, EMUI 11. We have been compiling a list of recent Huawei devices which we reckon will be eligible for an update to EMUI 11 and you can check it out here.

We already know a few things about EMUI 11 from occasional leaks and reports that come in. Most recently, we got word that Huawei is planning to bring back FM Radio support and if all goes well, we should see EMUI 11 unveiled as soon as this quarter.

But what else should we expect with EMUI 11? Presumably being based on Android 11, it is safe to assume that many of the features we have seen with the Android 11 Betas will be carried over to EMUI 11, albeit with Huawei’s own twist.

In addition to that, today we are getting a list of expected features and improvements that we should see with the upcoming Android skin from Huawei. This list has been published on Huawei’s Consumer forum ahead of release. These are some of the mentioned features.

EMUI 11 Features
EMUI 11 Expected Features

  • Improved GPU Turbo – probably and updated version or further performance updates
  • Improved One-handed mode – better operation even with one-hand navigation/use
  • Improved Gestures – gesture controls have been very useful between EMUI 10 and 10.1, further enhancements should bring more functionality and ease of use for most users.
  • Improved Dark Mode – dark mode currently has a limited feature set. Can only be switched On and Off with app compatibility. An ALL APPS and SETTINGS dark mode would make it really interesting
  • Easy File-Sharing – Huawe’s ONE HOP, Huawei share and multi-screen collaboration are great additions since EMUI 10. File Sharing to more Huawei devices and even none-Huawei devices should make for a great update.
  • Improved Security – everybody wants a secure device. Huawei is making sure this is further improved and that we users get top security when using our Huawei devices.
  • An improved airplane mode – the system/phone will check whether Bluetooth is in use and will not turn the radio off when switching to airplane mode

Previously, we saw reports that double-tap gesture will be baked into EMUI 11 and therefore when EMUI 11 officially drops, it will have a much more detailed changelog. That said, these are some of the ones that will probably make it to that list. We shall continue to keep an eye on this skin and update our dedicated tracker as Huawei and Honor devices begin to get updated.

    Update 1 (September 04)

IST 07:25 pm: Huawei is now beginning to recruit beta testers to check out new features on EMUI 10.1. Huawei P40, Mate 30, and MatePad Pro series device owners can register for the internal recruitment. The new features may be brought over to EMUI 11. For more details, head here.
