The Chromecast with Google TV is perhaps one of the best affordable streaming devices available today. It offers plenty of cool features for its price, but this isn’t to say it’s a perfect streamer.

Quite a good number of issues have been brought forward ever since the Chromecast with Google TV was unveiled. PiunikaWeb has done a pretty decent job documenting some of these issues.

Talk of the color distortion issue (pink hue) on multiple TV models, Wi-Fi keeps turning off on its own and fails to connect to 5GHz band, Apple TV+ Dolby Atmos 5.1 surround sound issue, and so on.

The company has also addressed some of these issues either through acknowledgement or rolling out software updates. In fact, the Chromecast with Google TV picked up a new update not long ago.

As per the changelog, the update tags along improved 4K support for TVs and AVRs as well as Dolby Audio improvements for Dolby Atmos and Dolby Digital Plus passthrough content.

For some reason, though, the said Dolby Audio improvements didn’t do away with the annoying Disney+ Dolby Atmos issue for users of the new Chromecast.

For a recap, some Disney+ subscribers have been experiencing an issue where content played through Chromecast with Google TV doesn’t include support for Dolby Atmos.

The issue has been around for months now, something that owners of the new Chromecast are not so happy about. Perhaps the reason it has existed for long is because Disney is involved.

At this point, though, it’s hard to tell who exactly is the culprit. But given that other services such as Netflix and Prime Video have had no issue with Dolby Atmos content, it could suggest the Disney+ app is the issue.

And even though neither Google nor Disney came out to acknowledge the Disney+ Dolby Atmos issue on Chromecast with Google TV, we are seeing reports that the issue is likely fixed.

Commenting on the same thread in the Google support forums, some affected Chromecast with Google TV users can now confirm that they are able to enjoy Dolby Atmos with Disney+ shows.

Since no software update was pushed to the Disney+ app or even Chromecast with Google TV with respect to this issue, it’s likely that the fix was applied from the server side.

Apparently, those who still can’t see the change can uninstall and then re-install their Disney+ app and the issue should be no more thereafter.

Regardless of how the fix was applied, it’s great to see that the issue is no more. Do let us know in your comments below if you are still missing Dolby Atmos support in Disney+.
