Discord is a popular communication platform that allows users to connect with others through text, voice, and video chat. It’s used by millions of people around the world, from gamers and hobbyists to professionals and educators.

As with any technology platform, Discord is constantly evolving and introducing new features to improve the user experience like the new username system and Soundboard.

However, some recent changes have been met with backlash from users, specifically regarding AKA nicknames (1,2,3,4,5).

AKAs, or “also known as” aliases, are alternate names that users can add to their profiles on Discord.

These can be useful for people who use different usernames on different platforms or who have changed their username and want to be recognized by their old name as well.

However, some Discord users have expressed a desire to disable AKA nicknames or have the option to hide them from their view.

They argue that AKAs can be distracting or confusing, especially in large servers where many users have multiple AKAs listed.

Basically, I don’t want all my nicknames being shown, I’d rather just have my normal username shown, the old 4 digits, or AKA disabled completely. There’s a feeling of privacy lost with the introduction of AKA being just open for everyone to see.

This was a stupid idea. My nickname should only be visible in the server, not on my profile. It’s even worse when you’re in a variety of servers and all you see is every nickname. Give us the option to disable it. There’s no need for it.

Another recent change to Discord that has received backlash is the addition of a dedicated button for threads in the input bar.

This button allows users to quickly start a new thread by clicking on the button, rather than going through the menu options.

While this can be a convenient shortcut for some users, others have complained that it’s unnecessary and cluttered.

They argue that the input bar is already crowded with other buttons and features, and that the thread button only adds to the confusion.

I really love having 2 useless big buttons in the most important area thanks discord.

While it remains to be seen how Discord will respond to this feedback, it’s clear that users are looking for more options and flexibility in how these features are implemented.

As Discord continues to grow and evolve, it will be important for the platform to listen to user feedback and make changes that prioritize user satisfaction and ease-of-use.
