MIUI 12 has been the center of attention in the Xiaomi community for months now. Recently, we saw reports that suggested this rollout is approaching its tail end with plans to finish this by end of October.

However, there are still a number of devices that are yet to get updated to MIUI 12. Case in point, the Redmi Note 7. Launched back in February 2019, the device ran Android 9 Pie out of the box with MIUI 11.

It has since been updated to Android 10 with a promised upgrade to MIUI 12.

Users of the Redmi Note 7 in China have already received an update to MIUI 12. 3 months on, the global Redmi Note 7 MIUI 12 update is still under internal testing.

Recently, we saw reports that Indian users of the device are in luck as the update to Android 10-based MIUI was expected to roll out by mid-October.

Today, the device is bagging yet another update in India, only not the one everyone is waiting for.

Users have reported receiving update version V11.0.5.0.QFGINXM, up from V11.0.4.0.QFGINXM. This update comes to users as an OTA weighing in at 431MB.

The update’s changelog indicates that this build packs the updated September 2020 security patch and little else.

System
– Updated Android Security Patch to September 2020.
– Increased system security.

This OTA is currently rolling out to eligible devices but users can manually install it over their current build using the zip file attached below.

  • Device: Redmi Note 7
  • Codename: LAVENDERIN
  • Channel: India Stable
  • Version: V11.0.5.0.QFGINXM
  • Android: 10
    • Type: Recovery
      • Download: Link
      • MD5: e9ee33810b1c6f04cd0b49597428ad88

See, security patches don’t weigh much; usually between 40-200MB. A hefty update like this could mean that the update is meant for a little more than just updating the security patch level.

Is this update set to lay the foundation for an upcoming update to MIUI 12? Well, we certainly hope so. This, especially bearing in mind that Xiaomi is already winding up this rollout.

We shall continue to keep an eye on this device and update as when the MIUI 12 update finally drops for this device so stay tuned to our Xiaomi section for that.
