‘Assistant with Bard’ is still in development, and although Google seems somewhat undecided about how to name it, the company seems to have things clear in terms of functionality, including a ‘YouTube Music’ extension that will allow you to control or manage music from your playlists without having to access the app. The first traces of the feature were spotted (by 9to5Google) in the Google app v15.4 update, which includes the following strings:

In case you don’t know, ‘Bard Extensions’ is a feature announced in September 2023 that makes it easier for users to interact more deeply with supported Google apps by allowing Bard to get key useful information without having to open them, in order to enjoy expanded functionality. Google gives the following as an example:

‘if you’re planning a trip to the Grand Canyon (a project that takes up many tabs), you can now ask Bard to record the dates that work for everyone from Gmail, look up real-time flight and hotel information ‘, see Google Maps directions to the airport, and even watch YouTube videos of things to do there — all within one conversation.’

Currently, there are Bard extensions for apps and services such as Gmail, Docs, Drive, Google Maps, YouTube, and Google Flights. The leak suggests that YouTube Music will be next on the list, and although it is not yet known exactly what all the possibilities that the YouTube Music extension for Assistant with Bard will bring, the leaked strings suggest that users will have more options to control music playback and even manage playlist content using voice commands.

Finally, there is still no exact date for the rollout of the ‘Assistant with Bard’ experience, and we don’t even know if it will be called that, but it promises to leave the classic Assistant far behind in terms of functionality thanks to the integration of the Gemini Pro and Ultra AI models from Google.
