It seems like Google is still a little undecided about how to name the ‘Assistant with Bard’ experience they’re working on. We recently reported that the company was renaming all instances of ‘Assistant with Bard’ to simply ‘Bard’, so it seemed like that was the name chosen, but a new report suggests that the company could opt for ‘Gemini’.

As spotted by 9to5Google, the latest Google v15.4.31.29 update has replaced instances previously renamed ‘Bard’ with ‘Gemini’. In case you don’t know, Gemini is the name of the AI models that Google developed and on which all the AI-powered features of both its mobile devices and web services are based. Therefore, using this name makes some sense, but it can be a riskier move than using ‘Bard’, as users are more familiar with the latter as it has been around longer in the industry.

‘Bard’ or ‘Gemini’? Google is still not clear

‘Bard’ is the name of Google’s response to services like ChatGPT, and although in its initial launch it had a long way to go, the company has been working to improve it by leaps and bounds. Therefore, it is a bit strange that Google is ‘getting rid’ of this brand after a short time in the industry, but in any case nothing is decided yet. The company seems to be in the testing stage to see which name fits best, and just as it suddenly replaced ‘Bard’, the same could also happen with ‘Gemini’ in future updates.

According to the report, the change could also affect the ‘Bard Advanced’ announced in December, which would be renamed ‘Gemini Advanced’. ‘Bard Advanced’ is basically the integration of Google’s AI chatbot with Gemini Ultra, its most powerful AI model, to take its functionality and possibilities to a new level. For the moment, we can only wait for new movements from Google regarding this, since the company seems to be in the middle of ‘brainstorming’ to secure the best possible name for one of the services that will mark its future.
