The Google Assistant is one of the most useful tools out there. It offers many possibilities through voice command commands on many compatible devices.
But, it seems that the service is not working properly for many on smartphones. According to multiple reports, a recent update ‘broke’ the Google Assistant voice commands (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7).
Google Assistant is not responding to voice commands for many users
As many will already know, Google Assistant can be invoked with the voice command ‘Ok Google’. However, Google Assistant is reportedly not responding to voice commands.
This problem persists even after installing and uninstalling Google app, and it occurs on multiple devices at the same time.
So when i got home, I tried all my other phones, NONE responded to Ok Google! I retrained voice mode on ALL 4 phones! checked to make sure they were updated! EVERYTHING was fine! Went a step further and checked to see if the voice functions worked on other apps- everything was fine! Tested Bixby on my Samsung, worked like a charm! Went back to Google – NOTHING! Uninstalled Assistant on all 4 phones, re-installed on all 4 phones – NOTHING! No updated help what so ever on line! When initializing Hey Google via the button, there is also no volume – and EVERY volume control on my phone is active and working properly! I’m all done with Google, Hello Alexa!

A similar situation was reported a few weeks ago by users of Google Pixel 6 (Android 12) phones. But, this time, it is affecting smartphones from other brands and with different Android versions.
A recent update would have caused the problem, but there is a workaround
Several reports suggest that the problem started after a recent update of the Google App. Also, for some, the Google Assistant no longer responds even to written commands.
Google Assistant not responding to any commands
Since the latest update to the Google app, Google Assistant will not respond to any commands on my Samsung Galaxy S8. I have gone through all the suggested steps. Nothing works. It won’t even respond to typed commands so I know it has nothing to do with voice training.
As soon as I uninstall the update, it works fine.

tried the new version again and after a couple of hours ok google does not respond. installed an old version 12.33.16 24 works perfectly. this has been so since september

However, there is a workaround that affected users can try. As the previous report points out, installing an older version (v12.33.16 24) makes everything work correctly again.
The issue is already escalated to Google
Recently, a Google product expert confirmed that the issue escalated to higher levels. Therefore, it only remains to wait for new official details on the matter to be shared.
Once more related details emerge, we will update this article with the relevant information.
