The wait is over for many Pixel phone users in the United States. Google’s highly anticipated Android 14 QPR2 update, unveiled alongside the March Feature Drop last week, began its staggered rollout on March 11 for Pixel users in the USA. This update brings a wave of refinements and introduces several new features designed to enhance the user experience.

While the official rollout commenced on March 11, some Pixel owners were pleasantly surprised to receive the QPR2 update over-the-air (OTA) earlier last week. Google acknowledged this as an unintended early access instance. However, the broader rollout on March 11 addressed this discrepancy and ensured a smoother update process for the majority of users.

Interestingly, the update seems to be following a global software version rollout strategy. Early reports suggest that some, but not all, customers on AT&T, T-Mobile, and Google Fi received the same AP1A.240305.019.A1 global build. This deviates from the usual practice of carriers providing customized builds, and as of yet, there’s no information on when (or if) carrier-specific versions will be available.

One notable omission in the rollout is Verizon. As of March 12, there haven’t been any reports of Verizon users receiving the QPR2 update, and their support page haven’t been updated either. This suggests a potential delay specific to Verizon’s network.

Some of the key highlights of this update

Here’s the list of the exciting new features that Android 14 QPR2 update brings to the table for users in USA:

  • Enhanced Bluetooth quick settings: Expandable tile showing connected devices and battery status.
  • Share Wi-Fi in Internet quick settings: Share Wi-Fi network credentials easily.
  • Microphone/Camera privacy shortcuts
  • Material You volume slider: Visually revamped volume control.
  • Single app screen recording/casting: Record or cast activity from a specific app.
  • Informative lock screen weather: Icons for alarms and Do Not Disturb mode.
  • Fast Pair management in Settings: View Fast Pair headphones linked to your Google Account.
  • Improved Pixel Fold app launcher: No more truncated app names, search functionality in multitasking grid.
  • ‘Your Pixel is up to date’ screen: Confirmation of latest software version.

While these are the most prominent new features, the update also addresses a significant number of bugs – 34 to be exact.
