While we want to encourage people to build their businesses on X, undisclosed promotions hurt the integrity of the product and lead people to distrust the content… pic.twitter.com/CmrRDx5tU1
X just dropped two fresh labels to keep things honest on the platform, or at least that’s the idea. Users can now slap a “Made with AI” or “Paid Partnership” tag on their posts straight from the composer. It shows up right under the content for everyone to see.
The rollout kicked off on the web version first. Tap that little flag icon when you’re posting, and the options pop up. Flip the switch, and boom, your followers know if it’s AI-touched or sponsored. Mobile support should follow soon, based on how these updates usually go.
Nikita Bier, who heads product at X, broke down the Paid Partnership label in a recent post. He stressed that X is all about capturing a real vibe from people around the world. Hidden ads erode that trust, he said. This tag lets creators play by the rules and be upfront with their audience.
On top of that, X tweaked some policies around promotions. Crypto ads are okay in select regions now, as long as you use the label. It opens doors for creators to monetize without sneaking around. No more guessing games for viewers either.
Meanwhile, the “Made with AI” tag covers stuff like images, videos, or even text that’s been generated or edited by AI tools. X has been watermarking images from its own Grok AI for a while. This new feature builds on that, giving a clear heads-up for any synthetic content you share.
Right now, it’s up to users to add these tags themselves. So you might still see AI-generated content or sponsored posts without any disclosures in your feed. User @xdNiBoR suggested that X add something similar to Community Notes, where users can flag obvious paid posts or AI-generated content where the OP doesn’t use the dedicated labels. That would be a good idea too, but we’ll have to wait and see if X takes note of it.
The addition of the features isn’t exactly surprising since there were signs of the ‘Made with AI’ label in development last week.
Other platforms have similar setups. Instagram’s been using paid partnership tags for years to meet ad regs. X is catching up, but with its twist on community-driven truth.
