Opera GX is providing Persona 5 The Phantom X players with a good reason to give its desktop browser a go, and the prize is something that is actually useful.

The company has formed an alliance with Sega and is offering a free 4-star Phantom Idol Select Ticket to a maximum of 100,000 players; this ticket enables you to select one character from a group of 12 rather than having the outcome determined by the normal gacha system.

The characters available are Shun Kano, Motoha Arai, and Kotone Montagne, and so on.

Opera GX has been leaning harder into these kinds of gaming promotions lately. The browser recently ran a similar campaign around Overwatch, handing out daily in-game rewards as part of an effort to attract more PC gamers. The company has also previously offered free Forsaken skins to grow its gaming audience.

This new offer uses the same approach: attract players with a reward they want in-game, then encourage them to join the GX ecosystem.

Maciej Wójcik, Senior Product Marketing Director at Opera GX, said the partnership is about giving players something extra through the browser rather than simply promoting another browser download.

Getting the Persona 5 The Phantom X reward isn’t completely straightforward, though.

Players first need to install Opera GX with the P5X mod already included, or install the mod manually through the browser’s store. They then need to sign into a GX.me account and claim the reward through GX Rewards. The code can finally be redeemed through Sega’s web store.

That’s quite a few steps for a digital giveaway. Since you need a browser mod and a separate account, anyone interested will have to spend extra time setting it all up.

There are also several regional restrictions. The promotion isn’t available to players in New York, Florida, or Texas, and users in Brazil, Russia, and Belarus are excluded as well.

The promotion is set to run until December 15, 2026. Opera GX is limiting the campaign to 100,000 codes, so there’s no guarantee codes will still be available by the end date.

PiunikaWeb’s Take
Opera GX has figured out that free game content can be a much easier sell than another round of browser advertising.

A guaranteed character is especially tempting in Persona 5 The Phantom X, where getting the character you actually want normally comes down to the gacha system. Offering a selectable 4-star ticket gives Opera something tangible to put in front of players instead of simply asking them to switch browsers.

The catch is the setup. Installing the browser, adding a mod, creating or using a GX.me account, and then redeeming a separate code is quite the hassle for a single reward.

For existing Opera GX users, though, there isn’t much to think about. The ticket is free, and choosing a character beats leaving the result to chance.

Everyone else has a slightly different decision to make. Installing another browser and signing up for another account might be too much trouble for some fans. But at the same time, others may decide that a guaranteed Persona 5 The Phantom X character is worth the effort.
