The latest snapshot (beta) update to the Vivaldi browser overhauls the UI of the ad blocker and brings functionality improvements. On top of that, we also get a long list of bug fixes.

This information was officially posted on the Vivaldi blog page. We’ve attached a screenshot below that shows some of the changes. The version of this snapshot is v4171.3.

The headline feature for this release is a “Fully revamped” ad blocker. To improve usability, the UI has been updated across all platforms. The navigation of block lists is now easier, and you can set up multiple levels of blocking. Furthermore, you can also tailor the ad blocker to any site you visit.

The ad blocker aside, here are the important changes I found in the list:

  1. Bookmarks: New bookmarks will now go into “Other Bookmarks” by default. The names for the bar and panel are clearer now.
  2. For the Calendar, accepting/declining invites actually works now. The functionality was broken earlier.
  3. For the Mail, importing old mail works again.
  4. There were various bugs with stacked tabs, compact mode borders, and tab rearrangement, which have been addressed now.
  5. The date widget no longer looks weirdly transparent on the Start Page.
  6. The welcome screen has some minor improvements.
  7. Typing the letters “pi” or “e” no longer auto-calculates unless you add the operator after it. (Calculator)
  8. Various under-the-hood changes, including a Chromium version bump that brings security improvements. Internal/Linux packaging changes and improvements are present too. 

Note: The list above doesn’t explain all of the changes in the beta. I’ve only picked some that would have the most user impact. Furthermore, snapshot versions include previews of upcoming features, so they’re prone to bugs; not recommended for daily use and is intended for developers/testers.
