Dia 1.46.0 makes PiP mode less sticky and improves Live Calendar

A new update has just landed on Dia, and it brings some usability improvements. PiP (Picture-in-Picture mode) is now less sticky, and there are some improvements to how AI agents work.

The latest version is v1.46.0, and it was available immediately after I checked for the update under Dia -> Check for updates.

While there’s no headline major new feature, here’s a summary of the important features/additions in this update:

1. Release Notes postcard: Dia used to show Release Notes in a folded newspaper style of layout. Now, it’ll open as a full-page postcard that uses the same look as Dia’s New Tab page.
2. Slack scraping: When you attach Slack to Dia chat, the browser has to copy the contents of the page (scrape). This would either occur slowly or fail randomly, which delayed answers or broke the response. Now, scraping will be faster and won’t fail as much.
3. Stack positions in GitHub Live Folder: Dia can keep a live sidebar folder of your GitHub pull requests. Each stacked PR shows its place in the chain.
4. PiP: PiP windows used to sit above the webpages. Now, you can right-click PiP windows and select the “Keep window on top” toggle off. Then, it’ll behave like a normal window where other apps and Dia can run on top of the PiP window. It’s less “sticky.”
   
5. PiP domain name: The PiP window shows the site from which the window came. Click on that text (the label), and it will now jump back to the original tab.
   
6. Calendar: You can now pick which Google Calendars are included while Dia surfs through them, so the live view only consists of the calendars you want.

The official Release Notes, as usual, mention nothing of importance. They talk about the Linear Integration feature in Dia, which is an issue-tracking project management feature. It also generates automated status tables. However, this feature was released in the previous v1.45.0 and isn’t part of the latest update.

It’s worth noting that existing Dia users can enjoy all AI features for free; it won’t last much longer. The Browser Company has officially announced new plans that lock all AI features behind paywalls. More on that here.
