Chrome 152 stable update rolling out to Windows, Mac, Android and iOS

Google has started rolling out Chrome 152, with the latest stable build now making its way to Windows, Mac, Android, and iOS.

The desktop version is currently at 152.0.7977.42, with build 152.0.7977.43 also appearing, while Android is getting 152.0.7977.42. On iPhone and iPad, the latest version is 152.0.7977.40.

As usual, Google isn’t pushing the update to everyone at once. Chrome 152 is part of an early stable rollout, so only a small percentage of users will see it initially before the wider rollout begins over the next few days and weeks.

I checked a few devices myself and Chrome 152 hasn’t shown up on my Mac or Android phone yet, while my iPhone has already received it. So there’s nothing unusual if you’re still sitting on Chrome 151.

There also doesn’t seem to be much to look forward to from a user-facing perspective this time around. After installing Chrome 152 on iOS, I couldn’t find any obvious changes to the browser itself. Google’s changelog is equally vague. The changelog that’s visible on the App Store for Chrome on iOS just says it includes “stability and performance improvements.”

There’s no new interface, major feature, or other obvious change associated with this version jump.

A lot of the more interesting Chrome work has been happening outside the headline release numbers anyway. Earlier this month, Google released a security update fixing 41 vulnerabilities, including six critical flaws. Chrome has also been getting work on Device Bound Session Credentials, which is designed to make stolen session cookies much less useful to attackers trying to take over accounts.

Privacy features are being worked on in parallel too. Chrome Canary recently picked up a dedicated flag for forcing the Global Privacy Control signal, giving users a way to tell websites that they don’t want their information sold or shared.

You can check for the update manually by opening Chrome, heading to Settings, and going to About Chrome. If Chrome 152 is available for your device, the browser should download and install it automatically.
