Mozilla has announced one of the most requested features for Firefox on Android, introducing Tab Groups to help users better organize the ever-growing number of tabs they accumulate while browsing.
The feature is rolling out with the latest version of Firefox for Android, allowing users to group related tabs together under custom names and colors, making it significantly easier to manage browsing sessions. Mozilla also confirmed that iOS support is on the way, following this initial Android rollout.
The announcement comes on the same day Mozilla released Firefox 153 for desktop and iOS users, which introduced several major additions including native Containers, HDR video playback on Windows, PDF editing enhancements, QR code sharing, and improved privacy protections. Android users, meanwhile, are getting a productivity upgrade of their own.
A long-awaited feature finally arrives
According to Mozilla, Tab Groups was the most requested feature from Firefox mobile users in recent years. The company says the goal is to solve a common problem: mobile tabs quickly pile up as users jump between recipes, shopping lists, travel plans, work research, or other ongoing tasks, leaving dozens of unrelated pages scattered across the tab tray.
With Tab Groups, those pages can now be bundled into organized collections instead of existing as individual tabs.
To create a group, users simply drag one tab onto another or select multiple tabs and choose “Add to group.” They can then assign the group a custom name and choose a color to make it easier to identify. Once created, the entire collection appears as a single card in the tab tray instead of occupying multiple tab slots.
Mozilla says users can:
- Create tab groups by dragging tabs together or selecting multiple tabs.
- Assign custom names and colors to each group.
- Collapse multiple tabs into a single card within the tab tray.
- Rename, recolor, or delete groups at any time.
- Continue finding tabs inside groups using Firefox’s built-in search.

Mozilla hasn’t provided a specific timeline for when Tab Groups will arrive on iOS, only confirming that the feature is already in development and will be released in a future update.
For Android users, however, the wait is finally over. With Tab Groups now available, Firefox closes one of the biggest usability gaps in its mobile browser, giving users a much simpler way to organize ongoing projects, shopping sessions, travel planning, or any other collection of related webpages without letting the tab tray spiral out of control.
