The privacy-centric browser, DuckDuckGo, just got a minor update that addresses bugs and issues. Since the updates are live for both iOS and Android, you can head to the App Store or Play Store and install them right away.
You can view an image of the changelog for the iOS app below. The latest version is 7.229.0, and it brings one notable new feature for iPads. The rest are generic bug fixes.
I’ve checked for this update myself on the iPadOS DuckDuckGo app, and sure enough, v7.229.0 was available for installation right away.
The main change they’ve made is easier AI model switching.
Basically, there’s an optional feature called Duck.ai (the company’s private AI chat), and you can turn it on or off from Settings. There’s also a toggle that’s inside the address bar that lets you switch to regular search. The image below represents it. This toggle lets you flip between the normal search mode and the Duck.ai chat mode.
If you don’t see the toggle, you’ll need to enable it from Settings -> AI features.
Before this update, on iPadOS, changing your AI model (from ChatGPT to Claude, for example) required digging into menus or opening the full chat screen to locate the model picker.
After this update, assuming you have the Duck.ai address bar toggle enabled, the name of the current model shows up directly in the address bar.
All you have to do is tap on the name of the model, and the model picker menu will appear immediately. You just have to select your model preference from there. For those who switch AI models often, this is a good convenience feature.
Additionally, the Android version of the app also got a new update (5.288.0). However, there’s no specific changelog mentioned. Hence, it’s just a security/bug fixes update with no notable new features.
To install the update, just head to the respective Play Store or App Store links and grab the latest version.
