The past few weeks have been a very fun time for Brave users. The company has added a ton of interesting new features to play around with, such as Containers, Email Aliases, and Workspaces. Now, an employee at Brave has also confirmed that tree-style tab stacking is coming soon to Brave.

Through a reply on Reddit (from u/aguscruiz), it was confirmed that Brave is working on this feature. However, the response doesn’t specify an exact timeline for release, and we don’t know when it’s coming out exactly.

Brave employee confirms tree style tabs.

So, what’s tree-style tab stacking? It’s a structured way of managing tabs. They have parent-child relationships, instead of just regular tab grouping into one category.

Whenever you open a new tab from an existing one, the new tab becomes a “child” of the parent tab. You can have multiple levels (“grandchildren”), and the feature creates several branches of related tabs. It helps with decluttering your web experience, since you can just collapse/expand existing tabs. Tree stacking keeps your tab bar clean, even if you have a lot of tabs open actively.

Presumably, you can also drag and drop tabs, move them around, nest them, or promote them in the tree hierarchy. You can essentially create a visual map of what link led to where, and it’s an intuitive way of browsing. It’s very useful for research, shopping comparisons, etc.

For example:

  1. Look up “Apple” on Google Search (This is the parent tab).
  2. Open the official Apple.com site (This is the first “child” tab).
  3. Open a sub-link within Apple’s website, such as the iPhone 17 Pro’s product page (Another tab is created in this hierarchy).
  4. Navigate to the purchasing page (This becomes another root).

Overall, you can organize your tabs in a structured and hierarchical manner, and if it works with vertical tabs, that’s even better. While Firefox technically supports tree-stacking for tabs, it is only via an extension. Brave might do it natively.

Furthermore, the Brave employee also answered questions about the versatility of the tab layout and emphasized that the current arrangement is what they’re sticking with, since the company finds it better than Chrome.

Bug fixes with compact mode are also confirmed to be on the way.

As we mentioned at the start, Brave isn’t slowing down with features. Recently, Email Aliases was released on the stable version (through an optional flag). More on that here.
