Brave eyes Zcash dynamic fee integration in its Wallet

Brave is considering integrating a dynamic fee system for Zcash transactions inside the Brave Wallet. The exploration follows a public poll on X launched by Brave’s VP of Business Operations, Luke Mulks, gauging community interest in adding the feature to the browser’s ecosystem.

The integration relies on a framework introduced by Shielded Labs engineering manager @shieldedmark. The technical proposal outlines a shift away from Zcash’s current fixed-fee model, which has pushed user costs outside the ideal price zone as the value of ZEC rises.

The setup introduces user-facing choices called Priority Delivery and “Speed Up” semantics. Priority Delivery allows users to select a 4x standard fee to incentivize miners to process their transactions quicker during heavy network demand, operating like an airport security fast lane.

Because Zcash lacks native Replace-By-Fee support, stuck transactions typically linger in the mempool until expiration. A “Speed Up” button would bypass this limitation by automatically broadcasting a completely fresh transaction at the priority rate, abstracting the complex backend mechanics away from the user interface.

Separate from the wallet ecosystem, Brave recently issued an internal user survey outlining a native media playlist overhaul built around automated YouTube sync folders. The browser’s underlying technology is also expanding to external platforms, with the independent Ladybird browser dropping its custom setup to implement Brave’s open-source ad-blocking engine.

Shielded Labs stated the dynamic fee structure requires no major network consensus updates and can deploy incrementally within current parameters. Unstoppable Wallet has signed on to run the initial pilot, while developers seek more wallet platforms to test the RPC fee estimation endpoints on the mainnet.
