While MyFitnessPal users are in uproar following a major redesign, a response from the company stated that the updated design is “here to stay.” The company acknowledges the change, but does not show much interest in rolling back to the old design.
The Support team has cited business and technical reasons behind the redesign, and this was shared in r/Myfitnesspal on Reddit. People argue that there’s a disconnect among the app’s core user base, and a lot of people value the old app’s design more than a fresh look.
The company said that it’s a “big shift,” and that it may take time to get more comfortable with it. However, the response also mentions that they’re open to refining and improving the design based on feedback.
Common complaints include the week defaulting to Sunday, unusual bold text choices, the removal of swiping between days, and nutritional information becoming harder to access. The changes make the app harder to use, and we covered that here.
Fortunately, frustrated users have found a workaround. Changing the location of the account to Turkey, from profile settings, often reverts the app to the old interface. Here’s how you can do it:
- Log in to your MyFitnessPal account on desktop or via the app’s profile section.
- Go to “Edit Profile,” and tap on Location. From here, select Turkey.
- Save the changes, and restart the app.
This method has helped many restore the familiar older design, at least temporarily. If you still don’t have the redesign, you can disable auto updates in the Play Store. It’s worth noting that results vary by device, and the company may patch this in a future update.
Let us know what you think of the new design in the comments! Did this workaround help you, or have we missed any other potential solutions?
