Update 28/04/26 – 11:11 am (IST): Recent reports from users suggest that Facebook might have patched the problem via a server-side update.

Original article published on April 27, 2026, follows:

Facebook users on Android devices are reporting that the app is crashing when they tap Reels, open comments, like posts, or play videos. A thread on Reddit describes the app closing after attempting to view videos, while Reels sometimes works before abruptly failing.

Reports of Facebook being down on Reddit.

For some people, the app crashes entirely and serves a pop-up that says “Something went wrong with Facebook.” These problems began on 27th April, 2026, and multiple users reported them across Reddit and X. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen app crashes of this nature on Facebook, since there are reports like this every other month.

The spike on Downdetector pretty much confirms the issue. Thousands of reports have been made over the past 4 hours, and the graph implies that the issue is ongoing. Facebook has hundreds of thousands of users at a time, so it’s unlikely for the issue to affect everyone. However, a significant number of people have confirmed that they’re facing issues with the app.

Users are extremely frustrated, since basic troubleshooting methods don’t consistently work. A few people report that clearing the app cache solves the problem, but other users also claim that it doesn’t help.

This suggests that the cause is a server-side issue or an issue with an app update; certainly not a user error. Reinstalling the app may offer a temporary solution, but the issue returns in a while. Some lucky users report that a reinstallation completely solves the problem, but it’s not helping everyone.

Comments on X about the Facebook issue.

The issue isn’t isolated to specific models, but it spans across the Galaxy S24 and S25 series, Pixel devices, and more. I haven’t seen any reports from iOS users, so it’s likely limited to the Android app.

That said, I’ve checked for the issue myself on the Android app, but Reels, comments, and posts work normally for me, implying that it’s not happening to everyone.

I wouldn’t hold my breath for an official acknowledgement, since such server-side errors or app version errors are quietly fixed in the background. We’ll update the article if we notice reports slowing down or when the Downdetector graph gets updated. Do let us know whether you’re facing similar issues in the comments.

It seems like a buggy week for Facebook. Recently, we’ve covered an issue where it doesn’t show your friends’ list on the right sidebar.

I cover fast-moving stories across apps, online platforms, and everyday tech — phones, wearables, consoles, and whatever else people are fighting with this week. Bugs, rollouts, scams, policy enforcement, and the occasional internet-culture rabbit hole are all fair game. My goal is simple — make confusing tech news readable.
